MEMBERS were welcomed to our October Meeting when various dates were announced for County and Group events; a raffle was held to raise funds for the Denman College refurbishment. Pauline Bamber spoke about her very short stay at Denman and the wonderful trip to London including a river cruise. Two members had joined the Institute of Advanced Motorists day held at the Motor Museum at Gaydon and organised from Denman. A very well organised and enjoyable day and it was good to have one’s driving abilities assessed by Examiners. Skittles, Book Club, Boules were all highlighted. The draw for the monthly flowers was won by Ann Quickenden.

Our speaker was Richard Kendrick whose subject was ‘Behind the Scenes with Film and Outside Catering’. His background led him into the world of catering for very large numbers at various events from film studios, sports meetings and festivals. The pictures of his very large catering kitchens, marquees, and other paraphernalia were most impressive but the hours of hard work and travel to the various events was exhausting. He and his wife met so many famous and interesting people along the way making it all worthwhile. Mr. Kendrick was thanked for enlightening us and with humour.

Our competition, something horsey, was won by Maureen Fletcher with Sue Layton and Josie Witts runners up.

Lenches WI welcome new members and visitors – the third Monday in each month.
