AT the July meeting, Worcestershire-based garden photographer Adrian James, presented an illustrated talk on courtyard gardens, tracing their history, design and influence. From the Taj Mahal and traditional Moroccan riads, Adrian moved on to early courtyard gardens in the UK; including at Westminster Abbey, Bourton and Sezincote Houses in Gloucestershire. Modern examples followed, often using the raised quadrants featured in early gardens.

Later in July, Roger Smith kindly held a members’ coffee morning at his attractive and well laid out garden in Pershore. Brilliant sunshine and excellent refreshments added to everyone’s enjoyment.

Our next meeting is on Saturday, 10 September at 2pm at Crowle Parish Hall, WR7 4AZ. In his talk An A-Z of Roses, Simon White from Peter Beales Roses in Norfolk will show how to get the very best from these garden favourites. There will be plant sales, a raffle and refreshments available. Visitors are very welcome for £3. Also planned for September is a members’ coffee morning at a large garden in central Worcester, and a visit to Morton Hall Gardens near Inkberrow. More information on the group’s activities is available at: www.worcs-hardy-plant.org.uk, and on our Facebook page.
