On September 5 some of our members and friends went on a coach trip to Witney. The town was larger than many of us had expected and it was a delight to see such a bustling town with many places of interest and a variety of shops including a well stocked knitting and sewing store.

Some of the group did an excellent guided tour of the town, others visited the museum and Blanket Hall or indulged in retail therapy.

It was pleasing to see a good attendance and to welcome some visitors at our meeting on September 26 at the Town Hall. We were given a talk and shown a DVD about the Teams4U Shoebox appeal. Bob James told us about some of the things he had experienced over 22 years of delivering shoes boxes to orphans and impoverished children in Eastern Europe. He told us how excited and grateful the children are for a shoebox filled with toothpaste, toothbrush, soap, flannel, sweets and small toys. At times what he told us was amusing but mostly it was very moving, especially when we saw the children's reactions on the DVD. It was wonderful to hear and see the effects of the work done by all the volunteers.

Our next meeting is at 1.30pm on Tuesday, October 24 when Sue Sollis will give us a talk entitled "From Land's End to John O'Groats by scooter". There is a small charge for refreshments and visitors are always welcome.
