THE Mayor, Richard Jones, welcomed everyone to our Summer Social on July 25 at the Town Hall. We were entertained by a very attractive young singer called Lula May, with a 1940's style hair do and wearing a 1950's style dress many ladies will remember wearing themselves. Lula May entertained us with a wide selection of songs from the 1940's and 1950's, opening with a Vera Lynn number "White Cliffs of Dover" and closing her performance later with "We'll meet again". Many of the audience remarked on what an excellent singer Lula May is, with a lovely voice and expressive and lively performance. She encouraged the audience to join in, singing along, clapping and doing the movements and generally having a good time. A few brave people got up and were rocking and rolling.

Later a scrumptious afternoon tea of sandwiches, cakes and strawberries and cream was served, followed by the raffle and "Name the knitted Hedgehog" competition.

Thank you to all those who organised the event, to those who helped to set up and clear away on the day and to those who supported us. Our next meeting is on August 22 at 1.30pm and will be our "Fish and Chip Day" followed by bingo. Booking is needed so please let us know if you wish to come along.
