World War One historian Chris Baker will be giving a talk - ‘A Soldier’s Life’ - to Bretforton History Group on Monday, June 4, 7.30pm, at Bretforton Memorial Hall.

Chris Baker who is founder of the ‘Long, Long Trail’ website, will describe phases of a WW1 soldier’s life from enlistment to training; service overseas, death in action, and military discharge to civilian life. He will also provide information about how to get the best out of your WW1 research. The talk will be invaluable for local historians and WW1 researchers alike.

Fiona Gibson from Bretforton History Group says, ‘We have made significant in-roads into researching Bretforton’s WW1 soldiers, with a view to commemorating the Fallen with a special event this Armistice Day. So, we are very pleased that Chris Baker will come and talk about the wider context of WW1 life, and provide an insight into how a young market gardener lad might be prepared for the atrocities of trench life warfare.’

‘A Soldier’s Life’ is open to anyone interested who would like to come along. Tickets are £3. Tea, coffee and cake will be served from 7pm. Contact Fiona Gibson 01386 830815, bretfortonhistory@gmail.com or see bretforton.net for further information.
