DO you get that sinking feeling when someone mentions the Annual Meeting? Fear not if you belong to our WI there is always a fun part attached. Let’s get the meeting bit reported though: Sue Bentley (01386 861509) would like donations of cakes, scones and help for Charlton Country Fayre on 17 June. Help in half hour slots between 1 and 5pm. This year teas and cakes, along with other food stalls will be on The Dovecote lawns.

Jane Way reminded us to look at the information on courses and events. She also gave information from a course she attended as part of her work. Leaflets were available on how to avoid financial scamming. Resolutions: Sue told us about “Plastic Soup”, the contamination caused by synthetic microfibers entering water systems and polluting sea water. Annie spoke on Alleviating Loneliness. Both resolutions were carried with large majorities.

Annual Meeting: Reports and thanks given by Treasurer, Secretary and President. Our secretary noted that WI are capable of electing a new leader, having a cabinet re-shuffle, entertainment and refreshments all in one evening. Government parties take note! After reading one of the press reports a lady who was one of the original members from 1947 has been in touch.

After agreeing to the committee members and re-electing Sue Miller as President we got to the fun bit.

Social time with refreshment, bookstall, gift stall and catch up chatter followed by a quiz. Thanks to Barbara Smith for devising the quiz and Jill Giddy for acting as quizmaster/person. Get well soon Barbara. Being on the joint last team I can only say my brain isn’t what it used to be! Great fun though.

Next meeting: Birthday Celebrations with a summer tea at 7.30pm in The Old Schoolroom, Ryden Lane, Charlton. If you haven’t already done so please let Sue Bentley know you are going to be there.
