On July 19, forty one members and friends visited two lovely Northamptonshire gardens, Lamport Hall and Coton Manor Gardens.
Lamport Hall contains one of the largest walled cutting gardens in the country. Among other features there is an Italian Garden and a Rockery, which was built to house the gnome collection (the oldest garden gnome in the world is on display in the house). In the stables you can read all about the history of Lamport and also see The Museum of Rural Life. We visited Coton Manor 10 years ago and wanted to return as its such a beautiful garden. Laid out in 1925 it comprises 10 acres of lovely colour-themed borders, a series of smaller gardens and a lake with flamingoes. There is also a Garden School in the grounds and a large nursery. All in all a very enjoyable day out.
The Society meets again on August 16 and the talk will be 'Three West Country Gardens'.
