Members arrived for an early coffee before Linda Robinson, our speaker, commenced the evening. Linda spoke about her life married to a farmer, her involvement with ponies, the Pony Club and Riding for the Disabled before becoming involved with Local Government. From 2007, Linda has fulfilled various roles rising to the position of Vice Chairman in 2009/10 followed by another year as Chairman. As a District Councillor, she had dealings with the major floods in 2007, the introduction of wheelie bins, as well as being on various Planning Committees. She has met some very interesting people, visited the Commons and No. 10 as well as attending many local functions and dinners. After a few questions, Linda encouraged us all to get in touch if we had any queries or problems and emphasised that being a Councillor had many rewards in being able to help people. Gill Proops thanked Linda for sparing us her time and presented her with a bouquet of flowers.
It was recorded that members had had a very enjoyable day at Worcester Races and some members had found the right horse to back. Our next meeting is Monday, September 17, when Boots will be showing us how to make the ‘best of our faces’.
