OUR May meeting was an afternoon visit to Morton Hall Gardens at Holberrow Green near Redditch. The weather was perfect as were the gardens. The parkland at the front of the house has a wide range of mature specimen trees and a wonderful wild flower meadow.

The area known as the New Garden featured Chinese birches, magnolias, maples and in the meadow were the newly added camassias and alliums.

We then moved on to the Stroll Garden with its Japanese features and two ponds. Here the Candelabra primulas were in full bloom. The path then leads to the Rockery where pulmanaria was just a small part of a magnificent display of plants thriving in this area.

Onto the South Garden which was full of tulips and clematis beginning to come into flower-seventeen varieties of tulips! The Kitchen Garden was just being planted up with a range of vegetables. We then moved onto the West Garden which has wonderful views over the Vale of Evesham.

This was our second visit to the gardens and no doubt we will be back. The above is simply an outline of our visit which concluded with tea and cakes in the Orangery. If you have the opportunity to visit Morton Hall Gardens then our advice is ‘take it’.
