OFFENHAM FLORAL ART SOCIETY

We held our Open event at the Evesham Arts Centre Theatre on Wednesday, December 6. Although not full to capacity, it was nevertheless a fantastic evening.

Our Demonstrator, Mrs Pam Lewis, had travelled to us from Devizes in Wiltshire.

In addition to her floral art skills, Pam is also a blacksmith - as was evidenced in the mechanics of the stands she had constructed to display her arrangements. One arrangement which stood out was a double layered crib effect which Pam used to support some beautiful white amaryllis stems - with straw placed in the crib areas and with a woven star supported from above. Truly magical, and so right for Christmas.

Another arrangement was entirely comprised of red flowers - amaryllis, carnations and some stunning anthuriums - complemented by foliage of the season and set into an inverted teepee which in turn was held safe by one of Pam’s ‘constructions’.

We also saw the creation of two stunning floral rings and a table centrepiece which included the beautiful gloriosa superba (the national flower of Zimbabwe) - whose common name includes flame lily, gloriosa lily or tiger claw.

However, not only did we have all of this to appreciate, but in addition we were able to experience Pam’s incredible sense of humour! She was a delight!

The Committee worked tirelessly behind the scenes - and together with the viewing (and possible purchasing) from the Christmas ‘bling’ tables and jewellery tables - helped to ensure our ticket holders had a truly memorable evening.

Since then we have had our Club Christmas party on December 13 - when we had the pleasure of the company of Wendy Stafford of The Art Pad, Offenham.

Wendy is extremely talented in her work with stained and fused glass, and was able with the use of an overhead projector and computer to demonstrate exactly how she puts her pieces together. Wendy also sets up half or full day classes for those interested in learning some of these skills. She can also be commissioned to do various pieces of work for individuals.

Following Wendy’s talk and demonstration, Club members enjoyed a lovely buffet meal prepared by one of the Committee members and two assistants. A small raffle was also held, incorporating the floral table arrangements made by Committee members.

Finally, as mentioned last month, our AGM will take place at the Offenham Village Hall on Wednesday 10 January 2018 - starting promptly at 7.30pm.

There will also be a light supper and some entertainment following the business.
