The Singing Demonstrator

On Wednesday, September 20 forty-one members and two visitors welcomed Jane Pugh of Bishops Castle, Shropshire to Bishampton Villages Hall. Her demonstration was entitled “Music my first love” which she illustrated by playing well-known tunes and singing to them while she worked!

An Irish love song accompanied her first arrangement within a beautiful log which she said reminded her of the Christmas turkey! She used lime green carnations, white lisianthus, cream bucket roses and a small amount of eryngium. The container for her second design was a large war-time wicker basket, bought from a local charity shop, and in this she created a beautiful arrangement using red hypericum, red roses and sedum – all accompanied by wartime songs! Next “a bicycle made for two” using garden hypericum, ivy, solidago (or golden rod), yellow gerberas and copper coloured chrysanthemums – and as anticipated she sang “Daisy Daisy give me your answer do”.

Her fourth design – a contemporary one called “The Twist” using purple liatris, fatsia and palm leaves, lime green conifer with calli carpa and cerise pink carnations. She finished off this dramatic arrangement with three anthuriums and three pandanus cones. Finally, a Roman urn with pheasants eye listeria, eucalyptus, black and green pittasporum and a carnation called ‘Moonlight’. She then added sprays of blue delphiniums and this design represented “Singing the Blues” which she sang and in which we all joined in!

A very enjoyable and different evening and a very amusing and entertaining demonstrator.
