A huge crowd of residents, Pebworth School children and parents, local councillors and Pebworth in Bloom volunteers turned up on Saturday, September 30 to watch MP Nigel Huddleston officially open a telephone kiosk. He joked that although this was a slightly unusual ceremony it was a very special one as the newly refurbished kiosk houses the village defibrillator. He was introduced by parish council chairman Simon Shiers, who also welcomed County Councillor Alistair Adams, Rooftop Housing CEO Julianna Crowe, Pebworth School executive head teacher Lorna Button and Pebworth in Bloom chair Yvonne Rose. She explained how the 3 year project to remove the kiosk from the outskirts of the village and to liaise with Rooftop Housing for a suitable site involved financial assistance from a county community grant, from Pebworth Parish Council and Pebworth in Bloom. At the same time a nearby “grot spot “ which has been transformed by volunteers into a beautiful seating area was unveiled by Mr Huddleston with its new name of Pipers Corner. The name was chosen from 49 entries and the winners Karen and James Pearson were rewarded with a bottle of champagne. Just before rain threatened the event everyone moved to Pebworth School to celebrate with a Worcestershire cream tea.
