JANICE Bell, our speaker for the evening was already making preparations for her cookery demonstration as we entered the hall. It was a welcoming and homely sight, and very appropriate, as Janice teaches the art of bread making in her home. In true Blue Peter style she had prepared some in advance in order for it to be baked and ready for us to eat later. Janice showed us how to make focaccia, an Italian bread which is the forerunner of pizza. Angela Bilboe thanked her for a very interesting talk and demonstration before we had a break for our coffee, tea and cakes.

The business meeting then followed with Angela Bilboe, vice president, presiding. There were several social events to discuss, including a Garden Party and Race Night – both in August. We are having a Coffee Morning in the Town Hall on 29 July when there will be the usual raffle, tombola and also craft items to buy. Beth Milsom gave a very interesting report on the National Council Meeting in Liverpool which she had recently attended as our delegate.

We were very pleased to hear that our skittles team will be competing in the semi-finals in Worcester on 28th June. Angela reported that the Craft Group had a very enjoyable evening learning how to draw with pastels last month. At our next meeting on 29th June we will be doing painting on glass.

This month the competition was “Wales”. Jean Barton was first with Jean O'Loughlin second and Jean Rogers third. We also had the annual competition for the Rose Bowl. This is a flower arrangement and the winners were first Pam Rayner, second Beth Milsom and third Jean Rogers.

Our next meeting is on 13 July, when we will be having a wine tasting and supper evening. We are always pleased to welcome new members, so please come and join us.
