Despite a considerable amount of rainfall and a dull, gloomy sky, the fete held in the Vicarage garden at Stoulton, near Pershore, 75 years ago, was a great success, being attended by a large crowd of people from the village and surrounding district, who quickly entered into the spirit of the thing and extended their patronage to the many and varied attractions.

The event was originally organised to raise funds for the repair of the tower of Stoulton Church, but when this problem was settled through the generous offer of Mr Bruce Kingsford, of Cheltenham, it was decided that the proceeds should go towards certain other repairs and additions to the church, and the instalment of a heating apparatus in Drakes Broughton Church. The arrangements were in the hands of members of the Parochial Church Council, of which Commander Nind is the secretary, and others who were interested. The whole scene presented a very attractive appearance, gaily-ornated marquees, and well-arranged stalls being in evidence, while enthusiasm was the keynote, many stalls being cleared through the sheer persuasiveness of the sellers. The opening ceremony was performed by Mr Rupert De la Bere, MP for the Division, at an appropriate interval between showers.
