AT the last meet of the season, Steve Andrews, huntsman and kennel-huntsman to the North Cotswold Hounds, was presented with a silver horn by the Hunt Supporters’ Club, to mark the end of his 13 seasons with the hunt.

As the Journal of 1975 reported, Mr Andrews was due to go to be huntsman to the Hampshire Hunt the following season, with his son whipping-in to him.

At the meet, he received the horn from the chairman of the club, Mr Paddy Rochfort.

Speaking to a Journal reporter 35 years ago, Mr Rochfort said: “It’s every huntsman’s dream to have a silver horn, and I know Steve was delighted.

“I went with him to choose it, and it was quite an experience to hear Piccadilly ringing with hunting calls.

“He tried several horns but he’s very musical and knew exactly what he was looking for, so didn’t have much difficulty in choosing.

“He’ll use it too, it won’t just be stuck up on a mantelpiece.”

The horn bears the inscription: “To Steve Andrews, 1962-1975, from the North Cotswold Hunt Supporters’ Club.”
