The wet summer seemed to have been more beneficial to fungi than to many other crops, 44 years ago and there were several reports of outsize puff balls having been found. One of the largest was discovered in a field near Moreton in Marsh by two boys Richard Henshaw (right) and Christopher Howe, who were both living at Stockwells, Moreton in Marsh. This puff ball, pictured, had a circumference of 3ft 8in and weighed 8lb 5oz. (Picture from our 1965 files).
