Songs, glees and high tea

THE terrible weather of this week 100 years ago did not stop the people of Moreton enjoying a fete at the rectory.

The Journal of 1908 reported: “Owing to the inclement weather, a parish fete and tea, which was to have been held in the rectory grounds, had to be somewhat curtailed.

“The fete itself was given up, but the tea was held in the Rectory House. A large number attended and enjoyed it.

“After tea, music in the shape of songs, glees, etc, was kindly given by several people.”
