Town’s public convenience plan put on hold

MEMBERS of Moreton-in-Marsh Parish Council discussed the provision of a public convenience for the town 75 years ago.

The Journal of 1924 reported: “The clerk read a letter from the district council intimating that the council had been informed by the Ministry of Health that they were not aware of any national grant or fund which might be available towards the cost of a public convenience for the town.

“The chairman (Mr L E Horne) said he felt the expense of the convenience could be spread over a period of years.

“Mr W J Spearing spoke very strongly of the need for a convenience in the town.

“Mr F W Harrison said he could not support having a convenience if the whole cost of it had to fall upon the parish.

“The clerk pointed out that at the parish meeting a resolution was passed that the whole matter of the convenience be dropped unless national or other assistance could be obtained, and it was therefore decided to take no further action for the present.”
