A glorious autumn A glorious autumn

VISITORS to Batsford Arboretum will be treated to a spectacular display of autumn colour over the coming weeks. This week many of the trees are going to be at their peak with their colour expected to last for the next two weekends. Last year the arboretum, near Moreton, experienced one of its longest displays of colour with an unusual and early autumn after the late summer was wet, cloudy and warm. Head gardener Matthew Hall said that while the colour would be as good as last year, it would not last as long. “I think it’s going to be good,” he said. “With the wet weather we had earlier in the year we have had lots of growth. This time of year we need lots of cold frosts in the night to start the process of shutdown.

We need lots of cold nights to prolong it. It’s a nice time of year. It’s a bit of brightness before the winter dullness comes along.” Batsford Arboretum is open daily from 9am to 5pm. Call 01386 701441 for more information.
