Worcestershire County Council is urging parents and carers to apply online for school places for the September 2013 intake.

All secondary school applications need to be made by October 31, 2012, for children starting secondary school in September 2013.

For reception (first/primary) and middle school applications, the closing date is January 15, 2013.

Visit worcestershire.gov.uk/schooladmissions to apply for your child’s place.

The process is confidential and will save time and paper.

The school admissions website also offers guidance on how to make a school application, the 2013/2014 School Admissions and Transfers Information for Parents Book and a starting school guide for parents.

Wendy Brown, Worcestershire County Council’s assistant school admissions and transfers team manager, said: “We find in the instances where parents/carers have applied for school places after the closing date that these applicants are less likely to be allocated a school of their preference. “We urge parents/carers to apply by the relevant closing date.”

David Thain, cabinet member with responsibility for transformation and change, said: “I would also recommend that parents and carers download our iPhone or Android apps so they are up to speed on school closures, school term dates, bus timetables and emergency alerts.”
