Gloucestershire leads way on skills for the future

Gloucestershire Local Enterprise Partnership is leading the way on skills, according to a national report.
The LEP, which is driven by economic development company GFirst, is cited as a model of best practice for its work with colleges and universities in the Local Enterprise Partnerships and Colleges 2012 report from The Association of Colleges.
Although the report says other LEPs are still very “patchy” in their engagement with colleges, it highlighted Gloucestershire LEP as an example of how LEPs should engage in education.
The report found that the LEP board contains the principal of Gloucestershire College, Greg Smith, and vice-chancellor of the University of Gloucestershire, Stephen Martson, to ensure skills are a priority. The LEP is also supported by 10 industry sector groups, each with skills sections in their business plans and is working with a number of other organisations to improve skills.
