POLICE are seeking to trace a man in connection with a distraction burglary at the home of an elderly woman in Broadway.

On Thursday, August 16, a man called at the property of a woman in her 80s in Lime Tree Avenue, between noon and 12.30pm trying to sell her cleaning products and managed to persuade her to let him into her home.

Once inside he stole her purse, which contained cash and bank cards.

There was then an attempt to use one of these cards about two hours later at the cash machine outside Tesco Express in Hopkins Precinct, Kinwarton Road, Alcester. The man is thought to be in his 20s, tall and slim, and was wearing a green top over a white t-shirt, dark jogging bottoms with a white stripe and white trainers.

Detective Constable Jamie Simon of Worcester CID said: “The thief used a succession of distraction techniques to get into this lady’s home and steal her purse and we want to prosecute whoever was responsible for this calculated and callous crime. As such, we need to trace whoever used the lady’s bank card in Alcester and we would like to speak to the man in the CCTV images, who may have vital information for our investigation. If you recognise who he is, please get in touch.”

Anyone with information should call DC Simon on 101, quoting incident number 0406S 16/08/12. Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
