REHEARSING: Members of Ilmington’s Festival Chorus are practising for the weekend.
VILLAGERS in Ilmington are preparing for their second music festival.
After the success of last year’s event, the Ilmington Festival is making a welcome return this weekend – and a special guest will add a little extra sparkle.
The festival will be held in St Mary’s Church on Saturday from 2pm to 8pm with food, drink and local craft stalls in Berry Orchard next door.
There will be a series of short classical concerts featuring the works of Haydn, Vivaldi, Handel and Wagner, along with performances from the village’s Festival Chorus choir and orchestra. Since the group was formed last year they have performed through the year including for the Archbishop of Canterbury.
Michael Hampel will be performing on Saturday in his famous role of the judge in Trial by Jury.
He is Canon Preceptor of St Paul’s Cathedral and was author of the words of the Diamond Jubilee Anthem sung to the Queen at the Jubilee Service in June.
Julian Harris, the festival’s music director, said “We want to create a musical celebration for the community which promotes the enjoyment of classical music across all age groups and throughout the area.”
Tickets are £12 and doors open at 1.30pm.
