THE sun shone over the Avonvale MES Miniature Railway on Saturday as members celebrated the club’s 10th anniversary with free train rides for all.

Families queued up to jump on the trains, which chugged through tunnels, across bridges and past such eye-catching features as a 10-foot tall dinosaur.

Jim Bulman, club member and former mayor of Evesham, was chuffed with the turnout for the event. “We opened half an hour early because people were here ready to go on the trains,” he said. “We also have quite a few local charities here as well.

The track, in a field next to Hillers Garden Centre in Dunnington, near Bidford, was built to provide a track on which steam, petrol and electric miniature trains can be used. Most of the trains used are built by group members. The railway is open every other weekend until October and will hold special Halloween rides on Sunday, October 28, and Wednesday, October 31, where visitors are invited to dress up to get into the spirit of the occasion.
