Driver owned up

A YOUNG man has been given a 28-day driving ban after some poor driving in icy weather.

Matthew Brooks, aged 20, of Woodlands in Evesham, was driving his Citroen Saxo along Evesham bypass when he rearended a Scoda Octavia as it queued at the Badsey roundabout. The shunt happened in January, when conditions were icy, said Kerry Lovegrove, prosecuting.

Brooks, a chef, had been driving for only six months when the crash happened.

After the collision, he left the scene. When he got home, he confessed to his father who told him to own up and call the police. Brooks admitted both leaving the scene of a crash and careless driving at Worcester Magistrates Court.

He was also fined £100 for driving carelessly, £175 for failing to stop, and ordered to pay £85 court costs and a £15 victim surcharge.
