Breast unit delay

THE opening of a new breast unit in Worcester may be delayed because of a review of NHS services.

Bosses at the Worcestershire Breast Unit Campaign had hoped to have started building work by now.

But the charity has been forced to apply the brakes because of a joint services review, which will dictate the future shape of all healthcare services across the county.

The charity aims to create a one-stop shop for all county breast care patients by the end of next year.

Campaign director Geoff Howard said: “The plan for the breast care unit remains in place. We also understand the value of the joint services review.

“We are optimistic that all the thinking behind the review is in line with plans for the breast care unit.”

So far the campaign has raised over £847,000, close to the half-way point for the £1.8 million unit.
