ALL OUR YESTERDAYS: Mickleton residents celebrate winning a £40,100 lottery grant.
A PARTY of more than 40 people turned out in Mickleton for a walk to celebrate its heritage.
Local historian John Kinchin led the group around 12 points of interest in the village and recalled some childhood memories.
The day was part of the Mickleton Community Archive project which will create a legacy for future residents by using photos and audio which will end up as an online archive.
Mickleton received a £40,100 grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund to create the archive which will be made through a series of monthly events with the local community.
Jenny Toates, who took part in the walk, said: “We were all enthralled with his commentary. He gave us a insight into life ‘behind the curtains’ at the time of his youth.
“His pride in his village and its heritage was something which was apparent to all.”
August’s event on Friday 24th will be at the Leasowes Hall at 2.30pm with the village’s elderly residents.
Former pupils of Mickleton School are invited to King George’s Hall on Saturday, September 29, to recall their memories and photographs of their school days.
