VISITORS and residents flocked to Bourton’s annual duck race on Saturday – including a Premiership footballer.

Bright yellow ducks filled the river Windrush for the popular fund-raiser organised by the North Cotswold Rotary Club.

Nearly £1,300 was raised which will go towards the East Gloucestershire Eye Trust and other Rotary charities.

Among those who entered one of the races was Manchester United and England footballer Michael Carrick, who was spending a few days in the Cotswolds with his family. Although his ducks did not win, he wished the club every success. Many of the club’s 48 members turned out to help run the event and retrieve the ducks from the Windrush after each race.

President Bob Hadley said: “The day was a great success and we are most grateful to the public for their support.”
