EVESHAM foodies have given a thumbs-up to Marks & Spencer’s Simply Food returning to the town.

A consultation day was held last Friday allowing people to have their say on the plans and 220 visitors attended. A total of 199 questionnaires were completed and showed that 82 per cent of people supported the plan.

A further 11.5 per cent of people supported the plans ‘with reservations’ with only four per cent of people saying they were against the retailer returning to Evesham.

The Simply Food store would be based at Evesham shopping park on Worcester Road and is expected to create about 60 jobs. An M&S Simply Food store opened in Evesham’s Riverside Shopping Centre in 2005 but closed four years later.

Clem Constantine, director of property for M&S, said: “This is an overwhelming vote of confidence, both for a new store for M&S Simply Food and in the future of Evesham.”
