PUPILS from an Evesham middle school have celebrated achieving a national youth challenge award.

Almost 30 pupils from St Egwin’s School were awarded the youth challenge award from educational charity ASDAN. The charity promotes skills for learning, employment and life among youngsters.

The pupils have volunteered with local charities and taken part in a first aid scheme.

Amanda Capewell, award co-ordinator, said: “We have developed firm relationships with local organisations such as Caring Hands for local homeless people, the Regal Cinema, the Sue Ryder shop and Cat’s Protection in Wickhamford to name but a few.”

As part of the award, the children fund-raised, including performing at an X-Factor style event.

They also completed the St John’s Ambulance young first aider in a day course. Mrs Capewell added: “I am delighted that as a result of their experience several pupils are continuing with volunteering and many hope to undertake similar schemes at high school.”
