Eckington football player breaks ankle

AN ambulance was called to the recreation ground in Eckington yesterday after a footballer suffered a broken ankle.

The pre-season friendly between Eckington FC and Anchor Harriers was abandoned with about five minutes to play after striker Rhys Walton, who was making his debut for Eckington, suffered a double fracture.

A fast response vehicle and an ambulance was called to the pitch at Eckington at about 11.50am to treat the stricken player. He was taken to hospital for further treatment on what was later revealed to be broken tibia and talus bones.

The home team were winning 6 - 1 when the injury occurred.
