DESPITE the torrential rain over the last few weeks the Todenham Summer Fete went ahead as planned – and attracted more than 400 people.

Organisers made a lastminute decision to move the event on July 21 from the grounds of Todenham Manor to the village hall.

Some of the familiar larger attractions such as bouncy castle were absent this year but visitors still enjoyed having their faces painted, pony rides, coconut shy and tombola while tucking into the BBQ.

Takings were up for many of the stalls – the raffle and tombola revenue beat all records – and overall more than £3,000 was raised for the village’s defibrillator campaign and St Thomas a Becket Church.

Three-year old George Duckett is pictured on ‘Cocoa’ with Babs Keane, both of Todenham.
