A GROUP of 16 excited but nervous pupils from Prince Henry’s High School in Evesham jetted off on a summer expedition to Tanzania on Saturday.

The visit to the partner school in Dumila will last for two weeks and see the teenagers help out in lessons and repair school buildings.

Before they left, Michael Witchard, aged 17, of Bretforton, said: “I am pretty nervous but this was a good opportunity to go to Africa.

Hopefully we will learn quite a bit while we are there.”

The Dumila school has 1,300 pupils and 12 teachers.

During its partnership with the school Prince Henry’s has worked hard to raise funds for them and introduced Tanzania into the curriculum.

Wayne McGarvey, head of sixth form, is leading the trip. He said: “We visited the school last year and we had some staff come over in September. The area is very poor and we will be staying in hostels and teaching English at the school.

“It is a good opportunity for the students.”
