Community chest scheme to benefit Shipston

WARWICKSHIRE County Council has given the go-ahead to a new funding scheme that will see £320,000 going to organisations and projects.

Dubbed the Warwickshire “Community Chest”, each County Councillor has been allocated £5,000 to spend on worthwhile causes in their division.

The project was approved by a full meeting of Warwickshire County Council last Wednesday and will start in the near future.

Shipston ward Councillor Chris Saint said he was pleased with the funding.

He said: “It’s probably the fairest scheme I’ve seen in my 11 years as county councillor. In the past they used to have the pot divided by five areas. Those areas weren’t equal in population.

“I want people to identify what in the locality the county council will benefit.”

Projects such as play areas, community facilities, grants and environmental enhancements are all ways that the money could be spent.
