Getting ready for the Games

THE torch may not have come through Pershore, but the town was celebrating the approach of London 2012 in its own way.

The Abbey was awash with colour as the flower festival came into bloom – and this year’s theme was the Olympics.

The annual three-day festival took place from Thursday, June 28, to Saturday, June 30.

Flower arrangements put together by children from Cherry Orchard First School and Abbey Park First School were part of the festival which linked in many of the sports which British athletes will be competing in in London when the Games get under way later this month.

Organiser Suzanne Clark said: “It helps to get the local community involved in the festival and the Abbey.”

Children were kept entertained with a quiz and flags of the world were hidden among the floral displays.

All money raised will be put towards much-needed Abbey funds.

The Journal reported recently how Pershore Abbey required £100,000 to underpin its east side wall, where a large crack has appeared.
