Fire crews in 'Everest' climb

FIREFIGHTERS will be scaling new heights at a ladder climb at Pebworth fire station this Saturday.

The teams from Pebworth and Broadway fire stations will be climbing a 13.5 metre ladder repeatedly until they reach the equivalent height of Mount Everest, which is 8,850 metres in total.

The Mount Pebworth challenge is part of the FireFit Challenge, a national initiative aimed at encouraging people to get more active. As a force the Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service will aim to complete 5,250 miles, the distance between Beijing and London.

The Pebworth Challenge will start at 10am on Saturday at the new fire station in Stratford Road, Pebworth.

Firefighters hope to raise money for Evesham Adventure Playground.

Watch Commander Jon Bird said: “Each member of the team will need to climb the ladder more than 50 times.”
