I’m running for my sister Sue

A COTSWOLD mum is limbering up to take part in Race for Life to raise money for a cause very close to her heart.

Tina Baggaley, aged 39, of Lower Slaughter, is taking part in the 5k race in Cirencester on Sunday, July 22, after her sister Sue was diagnosed with Metastatic Ocular Melanoma – eye cancer – only a few weeks ago.

Her 45-year-old sister only found out about the cancer, which has now spread to her brain, liver and spleen and is incurable, after suffering two seizures at her daughter’s 18th birthday party.

Mrs Baggaley will be running the race with her 38-year-old friend Jo Smith, who lives in Lower Swell, and they are both hoping to raise as much money as possible.

She said: “It’s devastated everybody. It’s come so quickly because as far as we knew she was fit and healthy. To be told she is permanently ill has come as quite a shock.

“That’s what’s spurred us on to do something as you do feel quite useless.

My stepfather Tony also has cancer and has been battling for some time.

“It’s going to be hard for me as I’m not that fit. I’ve already started my training.”
