A first for Shanti

A VALE student has become the first state school pupil to take home first prize in a Cambridge University English competition.

Shanti Daffern, of Eckington, near Pershore, won the Peterhouse Thomas Campion English Prize with a piece she penned on the works of John Donne and TS Elliot.

The Prince Henry’s High School pupil was also one of two runners-up in a national poetry competition earlier this year. Shanti will attend a presentation on Friday, June 29, at Cambridge University, to collect her prize of £500.
