A DECORATED Army veteran has shown he has lost none of his bravery and skill after base jumping from a 236-metre building to raise awareness for the Royal British Legion.
Warrant Officer Class One Spencer Hogg, aged 43, of Bredon, took on the adrenaline-fuelled challenge in the Pro BASE World Cup event held in Istanbul, Turkey, last weekend.
Along with team-mate and fellow soldier, Major Alistair Macartney, 36, the death-defying duo had to freefall for between 2.5 and four seconds, opening their parachutes at the last safe moment.
Mr Hogg, who left the Army three weeks ago, took the silver medal, just centimetres behind the winner Miles Daisher, a professional athlete from the USA. He narrowly beat his team-mate, Major Alastair Macartney, 36, who took the bronze medal.
The duo form part of Jump4Heroes, The Royal British Legion Extreme Human Flight Team.
“Leaping from the Istanbul Sapphire to raise awareness for The Royal British Legion was a huge honour,” said Mr Hogg.
The weather conditions forced the 49 jumpers from 16 different countries to leap in the most difficult conditions, dodging thunderstorms and howling winds.
