Cash for sporting projects

THOUSANDS of pounds worth of funding is up for grabs for sporting projects in Wychavon.

The district council has £10,000 available to support schemes that can run between June 2012 and April 2013.

To qualify, projects must target young people and adults between the ages of 14 and 25, and take place in the Wychavon area.

They must also offer six weeks of high-quality sports and activity sessions that will encourage teenagers and young adults to want to sign up and commit to more sport in the future.

Mark Williams, sports development officer, said: “We recognise the valuable contribution that sporting activities can bring to the health and wellbeing of the community.

We also recognise that funding may be an issue in creating new and innovative sports projects.”

The funding is available to sports clubs, schools, youth groups and uniformed groups such as Scouts or Guides, as well as other organisations.

Call Mr Williams before May 31 to request an expression of interest form on 01386 565229 or email mark.williams@ wychavon.gov.uk.
