TEAM work saved a woman’s life when she went into cardiac arrest at a caravan site in Moreton.

A trainee first aider from Devon had just arrived for a holiday and immediately began basic life support while Great Western Ambulance Service clinicians were on route. Meanwhile back at the GWAS control room at Quedgely in Gloucester a GP was called, then the County Air Ambulance was scrambled which all helped to resuscitate the patient for transport to hospital.

The drama enfolded last April but last week the group of lifesaver came together to receive Commendation awards at The Assembly Rooms in Bath, together with 100 other award winners.

GAS chief executive Martin Flaherty presented the Chief Officer’s Commendations and Awards. He said: “What unites all the people here tonight is their desire and passion to make sure our patients receive the very best care.”

And of the Moreton lifesavers he said: “The excellent team-working between three different locations has led to the five people being honoured for their exemplary actions beyond the call of duty.”
