RESIDENTS in Longborough are celebrating now that their village has gained a Walkers are Welcome status.

The village, on the outskirts of Moreton, is the first in the Cotswolds to gain national recognition. The Walkers are Welcome launch will take place on Saturday April 30, when all will be welcome to step out into the amazing nature trails criss-crossed around the area.

One of the organisers, Susan Webber said: “The celebrations will start at 10 am in the Village Hall with a welcome and introduction from Christopher Rodrigues, a long term resident and chairman of VisitBritain. After light refreshments the Cotswold wardens will guide a countryside walk around the area and local historian, Margaret Shephard, will lead a shorter walk around the village. Both walks will finish in time for lunch at one of the village’s four eateries.”

Walkers from outside the village are advised to park at the Cotswold Food Store and walk down to the Village Hall in the High Street.
