THE NEW interim chief executive of the Great Western Ambulance Service (GWAS) has pledged to seek a resolution to the dispute with ambulance drivers, who were on the brink of taking industrial action last month.
Martin Flaherty, who has joined GWAS as a temporary replacement for David Whiting until a permanent chief executive is recruited, which is expected to take six to nine months, said he would be working with trade union colleagues to find a solution to the dispute.
"I have a long history of working with trade unions in partnership to solve problems and move things forward in a way that benefits both patients and staff," said Mr Flahery, who is deputy chief executive of the London Ambulance Service and was recently seconded to the Irish Ambulance Service.
Mr Whiting left GWAS at the end of January to become chief executive of Yorkshire Ambulance Service.
