AFTER almost 150 years of teaching village schoolchildren, Mickleton Primary School is closing its doors at the end of term - with the children moving to a new school down the road in September.
The youngsters are already preparing to say goodbye to the school, which was built in 1857, and staged a review of the years from Victorian times to songs and dances including the flappers of the 1920s and the Twist from the 1960s
Headteacher Kim Hoodless said: "The school had a great history, and while we are sorry to be leaving the current site with all its memories we are looking forward to moving to the new premises in September.
The long-term future of the old school site is still unclear, but the Richard Porter Trust which owns the site and has expressed an interest in developing it in the future, has been asked to consider a community use for the buildings in the short-term.
