CHIPPING Norton firefighters tackled an electrical fire at a leading manufacturer of plastic traffic cones over the Bank Holiday Weekend.

Two fire engines from Chippy, one from Charlbury, one from Banbury and a water carrier from Wheatley attended the blaze at Oxford Plastics Systems at Enstone Business Park at Enstone Airfield in the early hours of Bank Holiday Monday. The alarm was raised at 2.27am.

The fire is believed to have started in an extractor fan. Electricity to the area of the fire was isolated and a thermal imaging camera was used during the operation. Firefighters were at the scene until 6.45am.

Oxford Plastics Systems is the leading maker of plastic road cones and plastic barriers in the UK. It also makes plastic safety products for the construction industry.

Oxford Plastics Systems managing director Chris Whiteley confirmed the fire had started in a fan at the factory. He said: “There was very little damage.”
