Shipston High School proves it is the healthy option

SHIPSTON High School is in good health after receiving government recognition.

The Darlingscote Road school has been awarded National Healthy Schools status, which means its pupils get healthy meals, have access to sports and lead healthy lives.

The government awards the status to improve the health of school pupils nationally.

Shipston High applied for the status, about a year ago, by submitting an large application document.

Debbie Cooper, a local athlete who is a member of the Great Britain Triathlon Team, visited the school to present it with its certificate and plaque.

Headteacher, Jonathan Baker, said: “It’s brilliant, a recognition of all the things that are going on in the school.”

The school also held a Jeans for Genes Day, during which pupils were allowed to wear jeans to class in return for donating money to the Jeans for Genes charity, which helps children with genetic disorders.

This was the brainchild of head girl, Victoria Botting, aged 15.
