Moreton's marathon man on course to hit target two years early

A MORETON man aiming to run 500 marathons by his 50th birthday is amazingly on course to cross the finishing line two years early.

Information technology manager Steve Edwards, 46, will be 50 in November 2012 but is scheduled to reach his target by April or May next year.

The Bourton Roadrunners athletics club member has consequently set himself an even greater challenge - to run 500 marathons, all in less than three hours and 30 minutes, by his 50th birthday.

Steve will therefore run nearly 600 marathons in total because he will not count ones that took him longer than three hours, 30 minutes earlier in his career.

This will give him a new world record for the fastest 500 marathons.

He has already set a world record by running 10 marathons in 10 days.

Steve’s biggest supporter is his wife, Teresa.

They have a 25-year-old son called Jason.

“Things have been going so well over the last two or three years that I don’t really want to slow down while I’m in this purple patch,” said Steve.

He partly attributes his improving times to nutritional supplements from Team Mannatech, his sponsor the past 18 months.

Steve is presently attempting to run nine marathons in eight weeks and is due to tackle one in Nottingham this weekend.

He said: “It’s quite a tight schedule that I have to follow.

“I’ve got one chance and I think I owe it to myself to try and go for it.

“It’s not like a one-off event that I can do again in a year’s time.

“This is a one-shot.

“Never be afraid to follow your dream.

“If it’s something you want to go for, you go for it.

“Ordinary people can achieve extraordinary things with a little dedication and commitment.”
