Survey reveals residents are happy with their lives

MOST Stratford District residents believe it is a great place to live, according to a survey.

Stratford District Council conducted the two-yearly Place Survey, which saw more than 1,800 residents express views about the area.

The survey revealed 88 per cent of residents were satisfied with their area, 92 per cent were satisfied with their home and 85 per cent believed people from different backgrounds get on well together.

It revealed that, compared with people in other Warwickshire districts, Stratford District residents are more likely to be involved in decisions affecting their area and to feel they can influence decisions.

According to the survey, one in three Stratford District residents have volunteered at least once a month in the last year, putting the district in Britain’s top 20 areas for voluntary work.

It showed that residents also feel the district’s anti-social behaviour problem has lessened over the past two years, particularly drunk or rowdy behaviour and people using or dealing drugs.

Almost three quarters of residents felt informed about how their council tax is spent.

Satisfaction rates for the council's street cleaning and doorstep recycling services were among Warwickshire’s highest, although satisfaction with its parks and gardens services fell by ten per cent in line with national trends.

Residents felt that road and pavement repairs, traffic congestion and activities for teenagers needed improvement.

Council leader, Coun Les Topham, said: “The challenge now is to try and build on these results and make sure people remain happy living here in Stratford District.”
