Shipston's Mayor chooses friend as his Mayoress

SHIPSTON’S Mayor has appointed an old friend as his Mayoress for 2009.

Coun Alan Noyce has chosen Veronica Murphy as his consort.

Mrs Murphy was also a long-term friend of Coun Noyce’s late wife, Coun Angela Noyce.

She has lived in Shipston for more than 40 years and is involved with the town’s bowls and cricket teams.

As Mayoress, Mrs Murphy will accompany Coun Noyce at civic functions.

Mr Noyce was re-elected to serve a third successive term in office after his 72-year-old wife died of an illness, in May, shortly before she was to succeed him as Mayor.

Coun Simon Welch was elected Deputy Mayor.
