EBRINGTON and District Gardening Club members feel blooming happy after winning gold at one of Britain’s leading flower shows, held at London’s historic Hampton Court Palace.
They received a gold medal, plaque and certificate for winning the Inspiring Spaces category at Hampton Court Palace Flower Show, which runs until Sunday, July 12.
The club won the category, which recognises creativity in small spaces, with its tennis-themed exhibit that comprises a tennis umpire’s chair, tennis net, tennis shoes and a tennis racquet, all laid out on real grass and complimented by a cream churn.
It is made of various flowers, including clematis, surfinia, petunias, mimulas, strawberries, begonias, impatiens, climbing roses and allysum.
The display is the brainchild of club members Barry and Sally Sabin and has been designed by fellow member, Liz Hale, of Liz Hale Garden Design.
The club will display its awards at Ebrington Village Fete, to be held on Ebrington Village Cricket Ground from 2pm until 5.30pm on Saturday, July 11 and hopes to display the exhibit itself in the village after the flower show ends.
Tony Boyce, the club’s publicity secretary, said: “It is difficult for a small village garden club of 100 members to win a flower show like Hampton Court, which is second only to Chelsea Flower Show.
“It’s like winning the Grand Prix with a moped.”
